In the context of Ukraine’s recovery, where war led to the uprooting of millions, cities have the potential to become places of refuge and opportunity for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), ensuring their dignity. This process was rapid, and IDPs often face precarious living conditions, limited access to public services, and barriers to employment, education, and participation in civic life.

To meet the diverse needs of IDPs, planning must consider intersecting vulnerabilities. This includes implementing inclusive housing policies, investing in infrastructure and services, and directly involving displaced communities in planning and decision-making.

The second UNECE’s Inclusive Urban Recovery in Ukraine series, under the UN4UkrainianCities project, will explore how Ukraine’s urban recovery can promote durable solutions for IDPs, aligning with international frameworks such as the UN Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the principle of β€œLeave No One Behind.”

This webinar will share international good practices and local experiences, including:

  • πŸ™οΈ Opening remarks from UNECE on the topic of displacement and related challenges and opportunities.

  • πŸ—οΈ Insights from IOM Ukraine and UNHCR Ukraine on IDP-specific vulnerabilities in urban settings, inclusivity, housing, and participatory approaches to include displaced communities in planning.

  • 🌐  A spotlight on city-level policies, design, and governance models that enable IDP reception, integration, and long-term inclusion.

  • 🀝 A panel with Ukrainian urban planners, NGO professionals, and local and national representatives, exploring infrastructure, mobility, and safety challenges, and opportunities to create long-term inclusivity and safety.

Join us to discover practical tools, strategies, and collaborative approaches for rebuilding Ukrainian cities that leave no one behind.
