Kharkiv Masterplan Concept: Science Neighbourhood
This concept masterplan presents the Science Neighbourhood pilot project for Kharkiv, outlining a forward-looking, innovation-led model for post-conflict urban recovery. Developed by the Norman Foster Foundation under the UN4UkrainianCities Initiative, the Science Neighbourhood adopts a mix-use and people-centered approach to post-conflict reconstruction, integrating housing, technology, education, high-quality public spaces with the Barabashovo Market.
The concept masterplan also highlights the site's strategic location, which connects three key areas of Kharkiv, and emphasizes the importance of balancing urban development and nature conservation.
Ultimately, this concept masterplan shows how the Science Neighbourhood addresses immediate reconstruction needs while laying the foundation for Kharkiv’s long-term resilience, social cohesion, and sustainable economic growth.
